All along the History, the writings of this exceptional location have changed from Saujean, Saujan to finally Sogeant.

"Already stated, in a charter from the 10th October 1331 by King Edward III of England, towards the men from “Entre deux Mers” it is listed that the knight Bernardo de Seugano, was Lord of the parish of Saint-Caprazy, the town in which the castle now stands”.

The castle was rebuilt at the end of the XV century and belonged then to the family De Piis.
In 1525 Jehan de Piis nominated his sisters his heir, and on the 25th May 1568, the new owner Jehan Mahus, paid the King his respect in the Castle.

On the 4th March 1775, by marrying Marguerite Henriette de Chavailles de Fougeras, Lord Antoine Joseph de Canolle, Knights of Lescours, became owner of the Land of
Saujean, as part of the dowry brought by his wife into the Wedding.

The domain was of 600 acres wide, between meadows, woods and red and white Vineyards.

The State will belong to the Family De Canolle for over a century, till the 17th November 1892, when Mr Amedee Balaresque bought it and restored it by adding in particular a
new aisle of around 400 m2 to the original building, following the plans of Mr Leon Drouyn , Architect.

During the 20th century , the castle belonged to several owners and didn’t receive in the last 30 years the maintenance it deserved .

In 2004, the Family Borel started a titanic project of restoration in order to allow the lovers of History and Authenticity to spend unforgettable moments inside one of the oldest and most beautiful edifice of the region, finally recovering its original splendour.
